Belur, Karnataka, India

The Hoysala temples at Halebid and Belur are the cream of one of the most artistically exuberant periods of Hindu cultural development, and their sculpture rivals that of Khajuraho and Konark. The Channekeshava Temple at Belur, begun in 1116 AD to commemorate the Hoysala's victory over the Cholas at Talakad, was worked on for over a century.
