Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary, Andhra Pradesh, India    (Dec 2022)

Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary spans the third largest mangrove forest in India (after the Sundarbans and Bhitarkanika NP). Nourished by various distributaries of the Godavari, it is also part of the coastal backwater—a rich ecosystem that's home to over 120 species of birds and other animals. A nearly 2 km long meandering walkway through a small part of the sanctuary and a short ferry ride through one of the backwater channels to the Bay of Bengal are the primary ways for visitors to experience the nature preserve. This is rewarding enough, especially if one is lucky to avoid the noisy day-trippers who sometimes arrive in busloads on the weekends from nearby Kakinada.
