Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India (Dec 2022)
Vizag, short for Visakhapatnam, is among the most pleasant and cleanest Indian cities I've visited. It boasts one of the nicest sea frontage and city beaches in India (barring a couple of unsightly effluents). Many ancient Buddhist sites lie in the vicinity, revealing the long history of Buddhism in the region. The city is a major cargo port and HQ of the Indian Navy in the East—it hosted the annual Navy Day while we were in town. For this garish and gratuitously wasteful ceremony before President Murmu, the citys main beach was blocked to citizens for days. More unreservedly, we were grateful for the new friendships we struck in the city—and for delicious Andhra food.
