Subject: Dharamsala

I first wanted to tell you that your pictures are absolutely beautiful. I especially like the people of India. My friend and I were wanting to go to Dharamsala to do some volunteer work (teaching English, working in an orphanage). I have read on the US dept of state website that the area of Kashmir and the India-Pakistan border is unsafe. In your opinion, is the town of Dharamsala very safe?

Thank you,
Dianna

Subject: Permission to use images

Date: Tue, 06 Dec 2005

Dear Namitji,
Namaste!

My name is Bhavit M from London and I am involved in making a souvenir book for a temple opening in Porbandar, Gujarat next February. The temple has been inspired by the famous saint Bhaishri Rameshbhai Oza. See site: www.sandipani.org/mahotav

I would like to use some of the beautiful photographs you have taken of temples. Would it be possible to get higher resolution images so that print quality is good? The entire project is a non-profit making one and this book is totally non-commercial (no adverts and not to be sold, only distributed free of charge to devotees attending the opening Mahotsav). Hence, we have very little budget, from which we would be glad to make a small contribution that you can put towards any good cause of your choice (as requested on your website).

If it is possible to get higher res images, please let me know and I will inform you of which photos I am hoping to use. We would most certainly acknowledge you in the book and also send you a copy by post.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.
With warmest wishes,
Bhavit

Your website is just amazing. I spent much time on it this evening and was so impressed by your beautiful pictures and your breadth of travel. I wonder if it would be OK with you to put your site on my website as a very interesting link. I hope you will have a little time also to look at my pictures.

Best wishes

Subject: Use of photographs

Date: Mon, 28 Nov 2005

I found your website while searching for some qualitative pictures of Syria. I've been to the country myself earlier this year and am currently preparing to print my travel diary. Unfortunately my camera was broken during my visit to Syria w/out me noticing it, thus, I only have a few pictures of use.

I really do like your photographs a lot and therefore would like to ask you, if it was fine w/ you to use them for my diary. The diary is not for commercial purpose; I'll only print and distribute it within my family and among friends (about 30 copies). As a matter of course, the source of the pictures, that is your name will be put down and if wanted, I'll forward a voucher copy to you. The text will be in German though. I can asure you, that it's content is politically correct and free of racist or prejudiced remarks.

Since I might also publish my travel description on the net, I'd like to know, if I were allowed using your photos w/ link connection to my site as well. Naturally, your copyright will be mentioned accordingly and I would inform you when the site is going online.

Thanks in advance for your response.
Kind regards
Ina

If you want you can visit the website at www.langnet.umd.edu. We are redesigning the website and would like to use some of the pictures from your website.

Can you please send me all the details of the conditions for using the pictures on this website. I will appreciate an early reply. Thank you,

Hello,
Your photos are so beautiful.  Your capture of color is amazing. Thank you for sharing them on the internet.
I am a community college student in Salem, Oregon. I am preparing a paper and presentation on the culture of India.  I would like your permission to use some (about 8-10) of the Diwali 2004, Jaipur photos for a presentation I will be giving.  I would like to use the photos in a PowerPoint presentation and also insert a few of them in my final paper.  I am not able to pay, so would appreciate being able to use these photos for free.  The photos would only be used once for this purpose and I will use your copyright notice.

Dear Shunya,
My name is Colby and I work for Mark Swiger Ministries.  We're a non-profit organization that does mission work in India.  I went to India last year, but right now I'm working at the headquarters in Georgia.  I am completely new to the multi-media world, and I have used your picture of the ship breaking through the ice for cd labels.  I was unaware of copyrights on pictures, until someone mentioned it to me.  The cd has not been distributed and they all are right here next to me as I type this.  There are about 300 cd's.  I'm willing to change all the labels at my expense for this mistake that I've made, if you are unable to release permission to this ministry to use them.  I will honor your copyright and I want to be honest in all the work that I do.  The cd's are entitled, "Breakthrough."  It's about God giving us the power to breakthrough different circumstances in our lives.  We do not sell these messages on cd's.  We give them freely to people, but sometimes we receive a love offering.  If you could please give me a response as soon as possible, I would appreciate it.  Again, I am very sorry.  If you want to know more about this ministry, please check out www.markswiger.org.  P.S. your pictures are beautiful.
Sincerely,
Colby

Hi!
I am a student of Columbia University. We at Columbia are setting up a site for the Indian Student Association. I have visited your site and have liked pictures of Indian places and monuments. I would like to know if we can use some of those pictures on our site just to showcase our culture. We do not have any budget for setting up this site. It is something we are doing at our own expense. I would be grateful to you if you can give us the permission to use some of the pictures.

Thanks,

I came upon your excellent site while searching for images of Sufi dancing. I am editor of Pan, the magazine of World Pantheism, a small eco-spiritual

non-profit "shoestring" outfit :) I was wowed by your images of nature and culture and would like the opportunity to use some of them them in our magazine and our websites, with the appropriate copyright notice: © 2005 Shunya.

You can check us out at www.pantheism.net, I can't be sure, but to judge by your choices under "Food for thought" we might be something that might interest you. We are completely naturalistic and nature-oriented - our views go under several other names such as religious naturalism, naturalistic spirituality, eco-humanism etc. We are not evangelistic or missionary.

Best wishes and keep up the good work,

Subject: request pictures for non-profit project

Date: Thu, 18 Aug 2005

Dear Mr. Shunya,

My name is G Mendoza. I am working for Luna Media, a small non-profit video company based in San Francisco. If you would like to read about our previous project _Hope_, see this article from the Apple website.

We're interested in socially progressive themes and ideas, and we are currently working on doing the video for a museum exhibit on the African diaspora. The exhibit involves tracing the movements, geographical and social, of humans from 200,000 years ago to the present. This will be done in a three minute video montage of stills and moving pictures, and we are interested in using the following pictures of yours (in digital form): landscape15, in the Tanzania Serengeti landscapes series; and PyramidsGiza1, in the Memphis, Egypt series.

The museum where the exhibit will be displayed is a small, non-profit educational museum, which will be opening in San Francisco in December, the Museum of the African Diaspora. This piece would be part of their permanent collection.

We appreciate any help you can give us. [...]

Sincerely,

G Mendoza

In planning a Sept. trip to Peru I ran into your writings of your 1994 trip. I was enthralled. You write wonderfully! I felt abandoned that you did not take us on to Arequipa with you. Felt as though you left me standing at the train station in Cusco watching you take my eyes and ears with you as you left. Thanks for the look at Peru through your wonderfully observant and humorous eyes!!!!

hello there.. i have to say i was amazed at the great collections in the site and sent it to all my friends who are into photography, the experience of browsing the site feels like touring the world online!!

however i need to tell ya something, the photo added to the people photos with that woman with deformed eye.. what beauty do u find in this shot, people seeking the landscape and special photographs in your site would be certainly irritated when they see this one, the site's not about terrorism or medical treatment or eye diseases or any of the sort.. people expect beauty and this photo is a great disappointment, i found myself soo sick and left the site when i saw it and i don't think this will be my personal reaction.. so that's just a hint..

good luck

We publish textbooks for schoolchildren. We are looking for a few nice coloured pictures of Greece, mainly the Acropolis of Athens, the Parthenon and the Theatre of Epidaurus, to print in our books. We really liked some of the pictures on your site and would like to use a few if you allowed us ... The books in which we intend to print the pictures will be priced at about Rs 100 (US $ 2 appx).

Hope you will be able to help us. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Subject: Sariska NP

Date: Fri, 22 Apr 2005

I have seen your marvelous pictures from Sariska National Park. I plan to make a short visit to this park this October - it is conveniently located on my way from Jaisalmer to Delhi. But I have found it very difficult to get any first-hand experience form this park. Could you please be so kind and share your experience?

I have never been so much after seeing a tiger and so I do not mind that much their apparent disappearance there (although very sad). I would just like to get a feel of Indian nature, see the forest and other kinds of unspoiled nature and see and hear some animals and birds. I would have about two days to do it in Sariska. What are my options?

Normally, I prefer moving on foot in parks as the best way to meet the nature. Is this possible in Sariska? Where can I find a good and reliable guide to show me nice representative places? Do you have any names and e-mail addresses? What place or trail would you recommend? Also, I have read about a possibility to rent a "hide" from evening at some waterhole (I know, October is not a good timing) and spent a night in it. It sounds as a good way to get some feel of nature there (voices of jungle and so ..). Is it really possible and where and how to do it?

Of course, normal way it to hire a jeep and make some tour of the park. Where to rent a jeep and what are good roads to take? I have read that it may be easier to make Alwar my base and rent jeeps and guides there - it was written that it may be too many other people trying to get these services at Sariska itself. What do you think about that? And, last but not least what expenses I should expect - in general, I am travelling on low budget but do not mind to spent more for some reasonable experience and memories to take home with me.

I am sorry for this long message but it seems to be impossible to get any reliable, unbiased, and first-hand information about Sariska. Thank you very much in advance for your time and any help you may offer.

Best regards,

Vaclav

... Saw the [Tanzania & Uganda] pictures yesterday, they are awesome... fantastic!

I really enjoyed the wildlife pics and [my wife and I] were completely enchanted by the Zanzibar pics, as they have something almost magical about them. I have no doubt from the pics that some of your best people experiences must have been in Zanzibar ...

All the Acacias, lions, birds, antelopes, elephants and the funny monkeys made great pictures too. Really liked the landscape shots in Serengeti and Ngorongoro!

... Keep at it man! I am sure that your photos provide countless hours of inspiration to many cubicle trapped denizens around the world.

Subject: image 'noria wheel'

Date: Tue, 08 Mar 2005

To whom it may concern.

We are a company in Hamburg/Germany of exhibition designers with a focus on interactive exhibitions with technical or scientific content. On behalf of the engineering company Danfoss AS in Nordborg/Denmark we are currently designing the attractions for an interactive science park in Denmark. The park covers roughly 3.5 ha with several indoor and outdoor areas. It is a park for families and kids, with a specific focus on the target group of eight to fifteen-year-olds.

For one of our exhibits we are on the search for a suitable image of a noria wheel. We have found the image in the attachment on your website.

We would like to use it in the science park. Is it possible to get this image with the following image sizes?

12 x 8,5 cm, 240 dpi, approx. 1200 x 800 Pixel.

What does it look like actually with the rights? We need the rights for 10 years. How much would this be?

Thanks a lot in advance.

With kind regards,

I can't tell you how much I love your site and pictures. They are absolutely phenomenal. I want to be a professional photographer. I was very curious about what camera(s) and film you used in especially your India pictures. Did you get a degree in art or did you just start making a living (which I assume you do) with your camera? I am so impressed with your work. You are my inspiration.

Thanks for your time, and I'm looking forward to your reply.
